Recover your account by presenting a valid government ID.
If you can’t recover or access your account or if your account has been restricted, follow the guidance below to learn how to regain access to your account by verifying your identity through Persona, LinkedIn’s identity verification provider. To make sure that nobody else has access to your account when you reclaim it, we must authenticate your identity.
Persona will require you to upload a clear photo of a valid passport, driver’s license, or government-issued ID card in order to authenticate your identification. Persona may occasionally request a picture of you in order to confirm that your face matches the ID portrait. If you would prefer not to provide a picture of yourself or your government-issued ID card, LinkedIn accepts other kinds of verification; these can be found under the section labeled “Other ways to recover your account” below.
Even though you will use the LinkedIn app to access Persona’s verification process, Persona will still be collecting the personal information needed to confirm your identity, and this information will be collected in accordance with Persona’s rules. Persona only provides LinkedIn with information about you if you agree to share it. Persona will request authorization before sending the following information to LinkedIn:
- Verification result
- Full name
- Year of birth
- City, state/province, country
- ID type and issuer
- Redacted copy of ID, showing only the face portrait and full name
LinkedIn does not get your ID’s expiration date, issue date, any biometric data or numbers.
LinkedIn handles this information in order to recover your account and only keeps it on file while the problems with it are being fixed. Normally, they are removed permanently 14 days after being submitted. To avoid fraud, we could keep non-identifying information about your ID on file. Here is a link to our privacy statement.
Haw to verify your identity
To verify your ID through Persona, you’ll need access to a smartphone to take a photo of your ID. You must make sure you snap a clean, unobstructed picture of a valid, non-expiring government-issued ID, driver’s license, or passport if you want to swiftly get back into your account. Verify that every portion of your ID is readable and clear.
Here are the procedures you will take to authenticate your identity:
- To start ID verification if you’re using a desktop computer, you’ll be asked to scan the QR code on your screen with a mobile device.
- Choose the nation from which your government ID is issued.
- Accept Persona’s privacy policy and the terms of use for the Identity Service.
- Select your government ID type.
- Your mobile device could ask you to allow access to the camera. This permission is required to complete your identity verification.
- Snap a crisp picture of your passport, driver’s license, or legitimate ID card from the government. Documents accepted could differ by nation. Note: Documents that cannot be used for verification include ID cards from the library or school.
- If prompted, take a photo of yourself.
- Before sharing any personal information with LinkedIn, Persona will request your consent. To share the verification and some relevant information with LinkedIn, choose “Yes, Share.”
